CAF Southern Africa is hiring a bookkeeper. A Johannesburg-based position, the successful applicant will be located in the Finance and Administration Department of the organisation, reporting to the Financial Manager and be responsible for the following:
- Preparation of the reconciliations for account balances and significant (qualitatively and/or quantitatively) income and expenditure line items;
- Assist the Finance Manager in the execution of his/her duties;
- Prepare reports for statutory submission for review by the Finance Manager;
- Manage the assets of the organisation by maintaining the Fixed Assets Register;
- Prepare financial reports for various periods;
- Review payments prior to processing and ensuring that payments processed are recorded on the financial records;
- Manage the cash collections and prepare the reconciliations thereof;
- Manage petty cash and prepare the reconciliations thereof;
- Overall management of debtors and creditors control accounts;
- Manage the payment system for NPOs
Some of the responsibilities are detailed below:
Bank - Download bank statements from the internet banking platforms and file
- Obtain investment account bank statements from the bank and file
- Load bank beneficiaries on internet banking
- Load payments on internet banking
- Ensuring payments are released timeously and checking that all payments reflect on the statements
Petty Cash - Manage the petty cash honestly and accurately
Filing - All payment documents to be completed and to ensure that these are appropriately authorised and upon payment, filed neatly and timeously
Downloading bank statements & filing
Project Invoicing - Maintaining project payment lists and supporting documents to facilitate invoicing
NPO/NGO Due Diligence - Assisting with NPO/NGO due diligence by collecting all the relevant documents
Reception Duties - Occasional reception support – answering the phone and attending to visitors to the office
Other - Maintaining staff register
- Ad hoc office admin tasks – for example equipment maintenance, meter readings, oversee general maintenance and repairs
Minimum Requirements:
- Degree in finance or equivalent
- Knowledge in accounting practice
- Pastel experience will be an added advantage
- 5 year or equivalent experience in Finance Administration and Bookkeeping.
- Knowledge of IFRS
- Knowledge of project accounting and donor funding
- Reporting and communication skills
- Computer literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player
- Good administration skills
