What is Employee Volunteering?

Employee volunteering is the giving of time and energy for the benefit of society. Employee volunteers are people who work, either part-time or full-time, and who are supported by their employer to undertake volunteer work.

Examples of ways for your company to support employees’ volunteering activities include:

  • Implementing a matched giving programme that rewards volunteer hours with cash grants to non profit organisations
  • Providing resources to support volunteer efforts, such as a list of volunteer opportunities
  • Allowing limited time off work to undertake volunteering
  • Recognising employees’ volunteer work through an awards scheme
  • Participating in the national Employee Volunteer Week campaign
