What is Give As You Earn?

Give As You Earn is the CAF Southern Africa payroll giving programme and is an ideal way for employers to support the generosity of its staff. The programme provides a flexible way in which employees can give directly from their salary to a non profit organisation of their choice. Employees’ donations are then matched by the company, providing increased benefit to organisations.

The Give As You Earn scheme offers benefits to all involved – employers, employees and non profits:

For the employer

  • Employee engagement – improves the morale, recruitment and retention of staff
  • Contributions can be matched, thereby doubling the benefit to the non profit
  • All organisations are assessed before they receive money, ensuring that donations go to worthwhile causes

For the employee

  • Enables them to give regularly and in a safe and secure way
  • Supporting non profits of their choice and causes close to their hearts
  • Flexibility, as payments can be changed or stopped at any time
  • Administration and bank charges are paid by their employer

For the non profit organisation

  • Provides long-term, regular donations
  • Donations can be used to cover core costs
  • Opportunity to create and nurture relationships with individual donors
  • Give As You Earn is unique in that offers a variety of giving options and ensures the highest level of choice and flexibility.

Direct donation – employees nominate their favourite non profit organisations to benefit from regular monthly donations. Nominated organisations are validated by CAF Southern Africa to ensure that funds are being distributed only to legitimate causes.

Staff charity fund/pre-selected list of non profits – employees collectively support a few organisations working in sectors that staff has identified as having the greatest need. Donations are pooled into a staff charity fund and distributed regularly to non profits

The CAF Southern Africa Give As You Earn scheme is flexible, easy to set up and run, and costs very little to implement and administer. It requires very little input from your payroll department and CAF Southern Africa handles the administration and distributions of donations to organisations.
