About CAF Southern Africa Trust

It is estimated that there are over 140,000 South Africans living in the UK. CAF UK in conjunction with CAF Southern Africa is offering this diaspora community the opportunity to give tax-effectively to South African charities.

A cross border tax effect solution would be of benefit to donors because:

  • South Africans living/working in the UK but still resident in South Africa can reclaim tax in the UK and receive a tax deduction on their charitable gifts in South Africa
  • CAF UK can reclaim the tax in the UK for the donor
  • CAF Southern Africa can issue a tax receipt and manage the reporting and relationship with the donor and charity

All donations must be made against one or more of the Trust’s themes, rather than to a specific charity. CAF Southern Africa will select one or more South African organizations that work in the area chosen to receive funding.

Sector-related funds

Four broad sectors have been selected initially from which donors can select one or more for funding. In order to provide as many non-profit organizations with the opportunity to benefit from funding, these sectors will be reviewed on an annual basis. The current sectors available for funding are:

  • CAFSA Endowment Fund
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Rural Women
  • Child-headed Households
