Beyond painting classrooms logoBeyond Painting Classrooms Johannesburg Workshop on Skills-based Employee Volunteering

Over 60 representatives from companies and NGOs attended the first Beyond Painting Classrooms workshop  on skills-based volunteering held on 5 March 2014 in Johannesburg. Workshop participants discussed good practice for planning and implementing skills-based volunteering and heard how different companies (AngloAmerican and PwC) and NGOs (Sesego Cares and Khutaza) approach skills-based volunteering.  To learn more about the workshop, read the Mail & Guardian article. 



Gauteng NPO Collaboration Dialogue 

On Monday 24 February  CAF Southern Africa, in partnership with SANGONeT, the GivenGain Foundation, Gordon Institute of Business Science, Muthobi and Charisma Consulting, hosted Gauteng’s first Gauteng NPO Collaboration Dialogue, at GIBS, Illovo. The dialogue sessions have been conceptualised to bring together the NPO sector to:

     • Look at novel and innovative solutions to challenging issues in the sector;
     • Explore new ideas;
     • Network and collaborate

Over 50 individuals attended the first Dialogue to hear Akhtar Badshah (Senior Director of Microsoft Citizenship and Global Affairs) speak. Akhtar’s role of heading up the citizenship office of one of the world’s biggest companies has put him at the forefront of how partnerships between non-profits and corporates are evolving. His presentation focussed on strategic partnerships and how technology has been an equaliser and an enabler in MicroSoft’s social investment.

Nexus Africa Dialogue on African Philanthropy, Social Impact Investing and the rise of Social Entrepreneurship in Africa

Colleen du Toit was invited to speak at the Nexus Africa Dialogue on Philanthropy, Social Impact Investing and Social Entrepreneurship in Africa on 12 February 2014 at Wits Business School. The event was a unique opportunity to discuss how impact investing and venture philanthropy can create thousands of jobs for youth in Africa. Nexus Africa also launched its Nexus Fund  which will promote African development through investing in high social impact and high commercial yielding projects that hold great value for sustainability and scalability on the African continent.
