Our Team

The CAF Southern Africa team members combine a passion for increasing giving, philanthropy, corporate social investment, research and advocacy with years of experience in both the NGO and corporate sector.

 

Gills Picture

Gill Bates, Chief Executive Officer
 

Gill assumed the role of CAF Southern Africa's CEO in January 2017. Gill has some 25 years experience, in the corporate, parastatal and non-profit space. She is a Corporate Social Investment (CSI) specialist and has managed the trusts and foundations of a number of blue chip entities, listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE).She has had extensive experience in the Financial Services Sector, from a CSI perspective.

 

Her experience includes Governance and Compliance, B-BBEE scorecard consulting, Sustainability Reporting, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting (MER), Research, Policy Formulation and Implementation, Strategy Formulation and Implementation, Programme and Project Management, and Fundraising. Gill held the position of part-time facilitator, at a Johannesburg business school and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Social Work, an Honours degree in Education Social Work, and a Master’s Degree in Public and Development Management.

 


Hansa 1

Hansa Goolab, Finance Manager


Hansa holds B.Comm, Accounting Articles, and Social Work degrees.  She has been a Social Worker, a lecturer (Community Policing) a teacher (Maths), a Financial Accountant and an Auditor.  Hansa has worked in the welfare sector, in the tertiary education sector and in the business and non-profit sectors in an accounting role.  She joined CAF Southern Africa in early 2010 to manage the financial aspects of CAF's corporate accounts.  Hansa also manages CAF's organisational finances and CAF Southern Africa's on-going financial sustainability is a key focus of her work.

Judith Mtsewu, Knowledge Manager


Judith holds degrees and postgraduate qualifications in social sciences (UWC), and various leadership and management qualifications (Wits University and GIBS). Judith has worked in civil society (gender justice and media and human rights), academia and local government. Before CAFSA, she was the Deputy Director: Planning, Reporting and Monitoring at the City of Johannesburg.

 

In 2009, she was a research contributor to the regional research on Gender in Local Government, titled “Swaziland: Gender in Local Government’, and in 2010, she received an award: “SA’s Most Influential Women in Business and Government (Tomorrow’s Leaders) from CEO Magazine. For two consecutive years, she made the Mail and Guardian list as one of 300 Young People to Invite to Lunch.

Louise Denysschen, Business Development Manager


Louise has a diverse background, from creating theatre for social change initiatives, co-ordinating NGO events around social and economic issues to business development within the training and development sector. The common thread throughout her career has been a focus on social change. Besides her formal work, Louise has initiated numerous projects with the aim of social cohesion and constructive discourse.

 

Louise now brings together her experience as well as her facilitation skills to assist with CAFSA’s business development and strategy. Louise holds a diploma in Adult Basic Education and Training as well as certifications in facilitation and group work processes.

 

 

Nzwaki 1

Nzwaki Hlebo, Office Support
 

Nzwaki holds an N6 certificate in Management Assistance. Before joining CAFSA she worked at the Wits fees office as an Administration Assistant during registration. She joined CAFSA in November 2010 as an Office Assistant and is an integral part of the CAFSA team, her duties include cleaning and helping with filing and from time to time she helps with CAFSA volunteering events.

 
 

Ayanda Yengwe forweb to use

Ayanda Yengwa, Marketing and Communications Coordinator 

 

Ayanda holds a Bachelor of Commerce Communications degree from the University of Pretoria. She has held roles in both the corporate and non-profit sectors focusing on education and welfare. Her passion for social development has seen her join CAFSA as the Marketing and Communications Coordinator in 2015. She holds a strong belief that everyone has a role to play in empowering others and should not just be left to government and corporates. Her belief is translated by the vision of CAFSA: 'to make giving and social investment a part of everyday life.'

Cya Radebe

Siyabonga Radebe, Knowledge Management Intern

 

Siyabonga (Cya) joined CAFSA in July 2017, to work closely with Knowledge Manager, Judith Mtsewu. Previous work experience includes being a Public Relations Officer for the Jesuit Institute, working in particular on their BizSchool Programme, which was linked to the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS). Cya is passionate about communications and the sharing of knowledge, particularly through social media and PR channels. He is currently pursuing his Photography Diploma online with Shaw Academy.
