About EVW

Employee Volunteer Week is a campaign that was initiated by CAF Southern Africa in 2005 to provide a platform for showcasing the achievements of employee volunteers nationwide, as well as providing companies with the opportunity for their staff to take part in worthwhile volunteering activities during The Week.

The Week was inspired by a realisation that there was a growing need for skills and resources within the non profit sector to address social needs. Having worked with the corporate sector for years, CAF was well aware of the fact that there are resources and skills that companies wish to provide to the non profit sector but often the challenge was identifying organisations to support and understanding the needs of the organisations.

All of this gave birth to an initiative that would see companies over the years getting involved with communities and providing much needed skills and resources, and also helping with hands on activities in The Week.

The objectives of the Week are:

To provide worthwhile opportunities for employees to volunteer their time during The Week and for companies to engage directly with communities;

• To raise the public profile of volunteering and philanthropy in South Africa and to enhance the profile of corporate contribution to society;

• To build the capacity and skills of companies, the non-profit sector and communities to support appropriate and useful volunteer involvement;

• To provide an opportunity for collaboration between companies, the non-profit sector and communities for the benefit of society.

Since its Inception the Week has seen over 15000 volunteers providing support to over 500 community organisations.

Employee Volunteer Week 2010 is no different; this year’s week was about fostering the spirit of resilience especially during this time when the world is coming out of the recession. There is a need now more than ever to give to those that are less fortunate.

CAF always encourages companies to put the weight behind the week and get employees out there, lending a helping hand.
